We first noticed that one of our girls’ combs was swollen a few days ago. It now looks more swollen and she is acting different. It feels neither ‘hard’ nor ‘squishy’; comparable to squeezing an firm orange
Behavior: relatively normal most of the time. Have seen her breathe somewhat abnormally. She stayed on her roost for a bit after letting the other chickens out. Acting like a loner at times/not with the flock. Someone also commented that under her eyes look like they may be slightly swollen.
Would like to avoid a $500+ vet bill, but called them and shared pictures: they said it was likely either from an abscess maybe from getting pecked, or an insect bite and may have gotten infected. I have not seen a visible spot of injury from my observations.
Any recommendations? Thank you!!
