Just to give you an idea of how much a week can do here's a picture of two of the males I had last year. You can see that the secondary feathers that are now getting old and about to be shed are fading while the new secondary coverts have distinct barring and there's black secondary feathers, not dark brown. Also you can see the blue showing up in the neck, the neck is starting to fill up with color, color coming onto the head, and the breast going white. Unfortunately though if these were Spaldings it would not be as easy.

August 23rd.
Here's one of the males I hatched out last year. He's around 3 months old at the time. Again you can see that the barring is moving down, the longest secondary feathers are faded and almost ready to be molted.
