I love your rooster.
Thanx Smoochie, gotta build nest boxes yet, and going to install a sliding window and cupola roof vent in spring, or warm winter weather.
My coop is on my driveway, am going to move it soon, trying to decide a location, tougher than any other decision, any suggestions. My family wants it behind the garage next to house, but no trees there, afternoon sun is partially blocked, further out in yard, harder for electricity, more predator issues, but trees and cover for summer, and snow to deal with in winter......RR

Close to the house! I wish my coops were closer. Easier to keep an eye on them and drop in a million times a day.

I was reading a post on here about people in Alaska and heating their coops. The majority don't. If you haven't read it try and search for it. I am in an area where I am not concerned but I like to be as informed as possible. My only concern was keeping water from freezing and got that fixed with a bird bath de-icer. works great. Good luck on decisions to heat or not to heat.

Yah I have read it all, I have 5 little banties, there tough, but not as tough as full sized birds. I am quite happy with my results, heated waterers, and cookie ti heaters on the ground in shavings and straw, are a bit of a concern too. Then you have cords to deal with, the tin heater and waterer, need to be secured, all fun and games. I would rather have the entire coop warmed up some, even if water freezes a bit overnight, just change in morning.

Yes they do however it is like having a husky outside in Alaska with a small doghouse to keep warm.. Replace the Husky with Chihuahua and it wouldn't work.

100% logical, Alaska is cold, but parts of Alaska are not as cold as here, our summers are much hotter, but our winters some years are brutal. This winter looks brutal, it is super cold here already, not -30 or -40, but down to 0f and damp with winds, but heck this is November yet, gonna be 34 end of week.
I appreciate all posts and help, but do look forward to folks who have the experience with bantams, in a very cold climate. Temp in coop right now, is 35f, humidity is 55%, 10f outside, but windy and damp.
Thanx again Smoochie, love your posts and logic, my dogs sleep in insulated garage, just let them out again, it was 35f in garage, in their box full of straw, it was 60f, no banty can throw heat like that, maybe have as much watatge as a Christmas mini light bulb.....LOL ole RR

Sorry for the input I gave, I must have read your first page incorrectly. I could have sworn you asked if you should heat your coop. I read things wrong all the time.
