HELP!!! We have a BEAR!!!

Oh my gosh! Yikes! Thanks for sharing these! So all those things about bells, hair, human "scent", radios...does any of that work if one has a problem with an aggressive bear like ours? What did you do? When it came back, what made it leave again? when were you back to happiness with birds, bear free? I'm worried!

Ha! No, he's a herding dog, mostly inside (always in at night), sure likes to sniff around after the bear, but he hasn't been much help.

Sounds like a sleepless night, & pepper his butt with bird shot. I bet it'll refrain from visiting again. Here, we can shoot to kill a "nuisance pest", but I would check with your locals before sending it to the "big woods in the sky".

Nothing deterred it but the electric fence. When they removed the bear, they put the fence up. I had lost so many birds, including some Seramas from Jerry, that I decided to give up on chickens until I could move to a house out of the woods. I never really blamed the bear. The house was in the Ocala National Forest, it was his home. So we moved. Sorry, that doesn't offer much help, but my in-laws live in the house now and have the back yard with an electric fence. The bear has not done any harm in there since, but the unprotected front yard has frequent guests. Watch out birdfeeders, trash cans... anything unsecured...

I don't know if I would waste my time shooting a bear with anything that wasn't powerful enough to kill it. it might make it angry and it tear out more than your hen house's door...know what I mean???? Call the game warden A.S.A.P

Holy Cow! I am finally getting chicks this year, and every year we have lived in this house we have had a bear in our yard. Some big, some mamma's, and the young dumb ones. I am getting the electric fense up first before the girls go out to the coop now for sure! Please be careful, and keep us updated!
