Ok please forgive me I have been up since 6 am, and then went to work, and it is now midnight and i am dead tired. So here it goes, Big Mama (my beauty) has something going on with her rear end. I went out right before i had to leave for work to lock the girls up and noticed two of the white one with dried blood all over their heads so i picked them up and checked them out and didnt see anything, and then i saw another white one going after the bottom of Big Mama so i picked her up to check it out and wowza i have no idea what it is or what is going on. I will attach pics and hopefully it will work. I need to know how to treat it, and what to do. I did notice that she was sitting down in the middle of the pen but earlier she did get up and act like nothing was wrong, she doesnt noticably look like she is in distress. She eats regular chicken feed, water, they get some cracked corn, there pen is dirt bottom and i just recetnly in the last few months put wood c hips in the pen area cause we were having trouble with the mud. we got our girls in March so they arent even a year old, they have been laying eggs at about 14 weeks of age.

This is a farther away shot of her bum area, it looks real bulgy because i was holding her and her tail was up.

This is a closer shot of it, ick, the only thing i have done so far was to take a paper towel with warm water on it and while doing that she didnt act like it hurt.

oh i forgot to add that i did take her out of the coop and put her in a small dog crate in my wash room so the others didnt kill her cause of the blood.

You know i was thinking a prolapse to, and that is a death sentence isnt it?

Does she look like she is pushing all the time? uuummm no not really, her bottom is swollen'ish but i figure that is from the others pecking at her bum, but it isnt protruding a ton.

I checked her this morning she is just sitting in the crate, no poop, i have food and water in there. What should i do now?

Keep her away from the others put honey on it as thats a natural antibiotic. Gently push back inside. If it comes out more than three times I would cull.
The other girls will eat her if you leave her. If that end goes blue it is dead and you have to cull her. Do take her away from the others.

Best of luck.

if i was to push it back in what am i exactly pushing? I do have honey from a neighbors bee's i could use that. UGH Please pray i dont have to Cull, i dont want to have to do that ever.

Wait or research prolapsed vent... I've seen on here, people using preparation H to help as well as soaking the bottom in nice warm water....
I just would hate to see you cull prematurely... at least, that's me...I'm so attached to my girls

Do a search in this forum for prolapse. There is hope for her if you can get it to stay in. You will need rubber/latex gloves and some Preparation H, but I'm not sure what else. I remember someone saying not to use peroxide since it can further damage tissue. Iodine maybe (not sure) after a nice warm epsom salts soak and then gently push in the prolapsed parts.

Some of her recovery chance will depend on the cause of the Prolapse in the first place. If there is a shell less egg tangled up in there somewhere, that complicates things as I understand it.

I have NO PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, but I'm (ahem) widely read -- mostly from this website. You did good separating her.

i have to go to work and wont be back until after 6 , when i get home i will give her a but soak, some of what i read really, really fast people suggest yogurt, so i will have to do more research about it when i get in. I hope she makes it and it is just nothing big.
