I think it looks like she is healing. How is she feeling now?
I thought I had one eggbound but it seems I don't. I check their pen daily and feed and water.....don't know how I missed it but went out there yesterday and there were FIVE eggs. Had to throw them away because I have been medicating that pen only because I had a rooster with a rattling chest. Two days and he is fine. Ten days and we an eat the eggs again.
I saw your post right after I saw my hens backside and thought it was the same thing as yours or eggbound. She is a fairly new hen and had not started laying since I have had her. She never felt bad or got ruffled up or stopped eating. She is still doing well.
I will tell you however I bought this stuff that was highly reccommended to me at the co-op. The fella said people were raving about it. Yes, I am a sucker for my chickens because I paid $26 for it. It is Vetericyn spray. It is a wound and Infection treatment. I sprayed the hens bum two days in a row and then stopped. It is no longer red and angry looking so maybe I hit the right spot. AND she started laying. I had her a month before she laid an egg. There are two girls in that pen...mother and daughter. Other than the one having a swollen up bum they both look really healthy and hearty.
But my expensive spray.....will keep it around for emergencies. Oh, I also sprayed the feet of my cochin rooster after the other rooster beat him up. His feet were bleeding and I think in an attempt to get away he damaged his blood feathers on his feet. They healed up with no problems at all. Heck, I might spray me with this stuff!
I am glad your girl is looking so much better....I have followed this thread to see what happened with her!
Aaaaawwwwww thanks for following this :0) Where do you get that spray might be handy to have around the hen house,it would also be easier to spray there bottoms then to rub the ointment on them, lol.
I am hoping after all this that her and i have grown closer, lol, I mean it is not everyday that I rub oinment on a chickens bottom, lol.
I have used bluekote with my birds and it has good healing properties and is not expensive. Also read this article by shagbarkbantams.com about oxine. it is great and I just got my order yesterday I think it will be another great product to have on hand for our birds............easttxchick, I would love to see them all but I have never heard of the Norwegian Jaerhon, Do you show your birds?

I purchased the vetericyn spray at the local feed store. I have used it on two dogs with minor scrapes and on myself when I cut my hand. I am very pleased with the product; handy to have around and can be used on horses too. www.vetericyn.com
