Help. What is wrong with my chicks?

Tomorrow is day 6 of treatment. Can you overdose them on Corid? My suggestion is to switch the chicks that do not have bloody stools to the vitamin regiment. My understanding neither of them ever did have bloody stool. One is acting unstable and the other is acting like it has something in its throat. Are these symptoms of coccidiosis by themselves? Also, do you think she should be giving Corid to the 3 that aren't sick right now? There are so many different things going on.

It really is a lot going on at once...I have been giving Corid to all 7 of them, so they have all been treated the last 5 days.

That is correct, I haven’t seen the Limpy, uncoordinated Wyandotte or the Flower Hen whos doing the weird neck thing have bloody stool. I don’t feel comfortable putting the Wyandotte back with the healthy ones because I worry they will trample her. Maybe I’ll make a 3rd set up for the Wyandotte and flower hen tomorrow.

:welcome :frow I would be feeding them a medicated Starter crumbles. Medicated feed is formulated for chicks to help them combat coccidiosis, a disease that is found just about everywhere in the environment. Most medicated starter feeds contain the medication amprollium. Amprollium does not *treat* coccidiosis, but it helps the chicks fight off cocci oocysts while they develop their own immunity. It is a preventative. Also I usually give my chicks Sav-A-Chick vitamins and electrolytes in their water. Good luck with your chicks...

I agree with this. But @ChickenCanoe might be right about increasing the corid and I thinks she means to continue giving it after the 6 day dosage on the 2 chicks still showing blood in their stools. I wish we hadn't lost her In the discussion. Hopefully she'll come back.

Is it a little late to start medicated feed at this point? They are almost a month old and are already on the Corid. Also I’ve heard giving vitamins while on Corid is back because then you’re adding back in the vitamin b that Corid is supposed to deplete. Is that not correct? I was planning on doing the vitamins once I’m done with Corid.

I’m sorry for you and your babies! If they were mine I’d add another heat lamp too, they look shivery and your brooder seems big enough for them to get out of the heat if necessary...as an added benefit hot chicks drink more and it’ll help get the meds into them

Ok that’s a great point. I can actually push the brooder closer to the heat lamp easily.

I agree with using medicated chick starter, might try adding some poultry boost (vitamin crumble) &/or brewers yeast. Feed store has both. I had a wry neck chick that did flips and ran backwards. I've been using gamebird starter grower, it's alot higher in protein/nutritional value than other feeds. I hope you get it worked out, it's just beyond frustrating not knowing what we should do, so we try everything. Good luck.

Thank you!! I need to look into wry neck. That’s not something I had considered.

Appreciate everyone’s help.
