My two Orpingtons have been laying for the last 2 weeks. A couple of days ago, I noticed a large red blob on the rear end of one. After a few minutes in went back into her body. So, I figured maybe it was part of the laying process.

Today, it is protruding out again, but she seems more lethargic and not moving all so well.

Here is a picture of it:

Your girl has a prolapse. Search "prolapse" and you'll find many, many threads with great information and possible treatments.

Oh no! I am new at raising chickens. Is this serious?

I looked up prolaspe and tried to follow directions. I got preparation H, rubber gloves, paper towel and warm water. I was able to clean it up, but I couldn't push it back in. It feels like an egg is in it. HELP!
