Thank You Yellowchicks! I did measure the "rise" from the top of the pen to the coop overhang. 12" would still allow me the room to get the ridge board up with room to screw the rafters to it. The span in the back is 8' - evenly divided: 4' out FROM the coop, and 4' against the coop. The pictures are a bit deceiving and make the overall run look much smaller. The weather here today was cold and windy so I put off construction until tomorrow which should be milder. I plan to set the ridge board first. If 12" does not allow enough room to work, I can always drop it down to 10". Once I have my height, it will be a snap to get the angles cut and start framing. To eliminate the gap where the panels meet, I noticed that there is a ridge cap available to cover the vulnerable area where wind/water may get under the panels. This will allow me to construct a typical gable roof. One positive note is that by building the roof in this manner, I retain the ability to extend the coop if the need arises.
** I also plan to use the area under the panels as a "cold frame" to start the growing process in the Spring. With any luck, I'll get the roof on and have time to enclose the run 26" up to keep the snow at bay. This would take (2) - 8 foot panels lying horizontally per side. I may leave the gates as they are for ventilation. It's a work in progress so I am sure that it will evolve. I will try to get better pictures tomorrow so that you can get a better idea of the structure! Thanks again!
