Help! What WAS this?

true, if it was that strong too (should have read closely) prob a coon, they use their front feet like hands, very good at figuringout how to open doors, lift lids, and muscle through, closely related to the bear. Didn't see it so just a guess

I do believe it was a Fisher and they are related to mink/weasel family. Fishers are evil creatures, and coons are evil and smart. By the way I've killed several coon over 30 pounds,Uniontown your'e right to be scared because coons this size aren't afraid of much. Shotgun with #4 load works real well on either of the two baddies.

The Fisher and the American Marten are not the same animal but very closly related. Both are of the the mustelid family. The Fisher is bigger and badder.

Thanks! It must have been wrong info on a website last night. I had never heard that they were before reading it last night. Isn't a marten a little smaller than a fisher?

The Marten is significantly smaller. Pending on sex, with adult males being bigger, range from 1lb to 3 1/2lbs and lengths of 18" to 30" nose to tail tip. The Fisher is again pending on sex, range from 4-11 lbs and grow from 30" to 48" nose to tail tip.

Its not hard to understand how these creatures kind of morph into one. Overs years ole timers pass on something as "X" and in reality its really a "Y". So confusion gets passed down the line and no one is exempt.
If you look at this family of animals you got the weasel, mink, stoat, ferret, marten, fisher and even otter just seem like different colored and sized version of the same creature.
