The Fisher and the American Marten are not the same animal but very closly related. Both are of the the mustelid family. The Fisher is bigger and badder.
Thanks! It must have been wrong info on a website last night. I had never heard that they were before reading it last night. Isn't a marten a little smaller than a fisher?
The Marten is significantly smaller. Pending on sex, with adult males being bigger, range from 1lb to 3 1/2lbs and lengths of 18" to 30" nose to tail tip. The Fisher is again pending on sex, range from 4-11 lbs and grow from 30" to 48" nose to tail tip.
Its not hard to understand how these creatures kind of morph into one. Overs years ole timers pass on something as "X" and in reality its really a "Y". So confusion gets passed down the line and no one is exempt.
If you look at this family of animals you got the weasel, mink, stoat, ferret, marten, fisher and even otter just seem like different colored and sized version of the same creature.
