My Crazy, Curious, Queen of the FLock White Leghorn Rosie has something wrong with her comb. Here is a picture of her and her friend from yesterday with everything looking fine.

This morning, when I went to check on them, I found her looking like this...

I am new to chickens this year, and I am scared to death that they are going to kill over at any moment. I am not sure if this is a wound or something else. One one side, there is a little spot that dents in a little. It is directly opposite the "C" shaped mark on the other side of her comb. The "c" sort of stands out and looks hard and scabby, although I didn't get to touch it because I was running late this morning and didn't have time to chase them all back into the coop.

Rosie just started laying for us this week. We have gotten 4 eggs from her in three days. She was acting just fine, her normal Nosey-Rosie self, sticking her nose in the camera, begging for treats. I saw her eat, I saw her drink. She was running around doing her normal thing. The only changes I made was to put some vitamins in their water last night right before they went to bed. I THINK this is a peck wound, but I'm not sure.

Please respond and let me know what you think. I am in town at work today, and can run to Southern States on my lunch break if she needs medicine. I am really afraid something bad is wrong with her...I know she was vaxed for Mareck's. Other than that, they have not been wormed yet as they are only 19 weeks old, and my vet told me to wait until they were 6 months old.

CHeck her and hte others over when you get home. If you see more scabs this evening, chances are you have a case of pox starting. If not, then just a squabble.

Let us know.

Looks like someone gave her a nip on the comb. One of mine had a scab on her wattle it looked better each day and is now gone. Someone gave her a good peck.
