HELP!!! Wheezy Hen!

My Ameraucana hen started wheezing whenever she tries to breath today. She was doing fine, and I was kind of excited because I thought she might be laying her first egg of 2008 since she kept going in the nesting box. Now she is wheezing horribly with a shortness of breath very rapidly. I have her in a crate in the house now with food and water. I have no idea of how to help!??!

Hey, AJ, sorry to hear Jazz? is in trouble. I'm going to post some questions (from the sticky at the top of the page - and a few of mine. Maybe the info will help the experts help you.

1) age and weight?.
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all?
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use

Is her crop full or empty? Any dicoloration of comb or wattles? Is she listless/lethargic?

I'm assuming that you've observed no signs of illness in the rest of your flock over the past week or so?

1) age and weight?.- I think that shes around three yrs old same weight as ever
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all? -Water with vitamin supplements, Layer pellets 19% protien with treats of scratch, also oyster shell and grit, plus whatever they find in the yard ranging

8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? - Just treat myself with whatever I have or can buy at the stores in my town and the next towns over
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use- Pine chips. Fine with others

Is her crop full or empty? Any dicoloration of comb or wattles? Is she listless/lethargic? - comb normal, crop- has some food in it not really full, appears ok

I'm assuming that you've observed no signs of illness in the rest of your flock over the past week or so?- everyone else is fine
