This year we got a 5 chicks through my 4-H Chicken Club. We also got a BR. She looked just like yours with the big comb, but she ended up being a pullet. When we got the chicks we thought they were all females but we ended up with 2 cockerels along with the other pullets.
The problem is that a BR cross cockerel can look very much like a BR pullet. Been there with some Phoenix x BR crosses. Didn't realize the cross had happened till we realized the barring was weird/incomplete and the combs were pink at 3-4 weeks old.
I'll be following right along here as I also posted a thread last week about my MPC barred rock who's the same age.
Any chance of clearer pics from different angles to compare? Mine has less red, but the comb might be a similar size. I'm hoping, since she's still overall darker than other cockerel pics I've seen, that it's a pullet. Yours appears to have that overall darker coloring as well. Crossing my fingers for both of us. I'm probably taking more pics tomorrow when the thunderstorms are gone so I can update my thread.
