I was given this little guy and another one, and this one has stayed to himself the past couple of days, and then today his eyes are swollen and he just sits like this. I've removed him from the rest of my crew and don't know what I need to do for him???? Please help?????

Hey there.

You were right to separate, he looks miserable. Eyes closed head and tail down etc.
Is he eating and drinking ?
Check under all his feathers. Is his skin red ? Is there an injury ?
What's his breathing like ? Does he rasp at night ? Does he sneeze ? Are the eyes swollen as I can't see that they are from the photos. ?
Is his crop emptying during the night ?
Have you wormed them recently ?

If he's not eating Offer him hard boiled egg and water with a little sugar in it or some baby vitamins if you have them.

Red mites are common at this time of year. Check your coop. Perch ends are a common hiding place. Wipe under them with a white tissue, but if you don't see anything don't discount them.

If there is swelling around the eyes it could be a respiratory infection.
In the UK we use soluable tylan because it's really strict but you might be able to get better than over here.

Hope you all go on ok x

He is eating and drinking both, I have cleaned their coop again, and we use a dusting powder, not sure of the name, it was recommended when we bought our older girls. I have checked under his wings and they are white dry and bug free. He does have a wound on the top of his head that we found, looks like he was pecked by the older ones, maybe. I will have to check coop again and use a white tissue to check. He can open his eyes, but they are puffy and just a bit swollen. Another article I read said to try collided silver, for his eyes wound, and get him to drink some. And they all have been wormed about 2 weeks ago.

Keep him separate until you are sure he is fully recovered.
Do you think the eye issue is an injury ? If so it should heal over time and you can help by keeping it clean.
If you don't think it's an injury then it's likely to be a symptom of a respiratory infection. Keep him warm and quiet.
Is the peck to his head bad ?
Apply some antibiotic cream if so, but nothing that ends in Caine.

When reintroducing him use some chicken wire to give the littles their own space so the bigs can see them through the wire but can't peck them. Also make sure there are two or three water and feeding stations so they don't keep the littles away from the feed.
I have a couple of 'bolt holes' in my baby pen where they can get away from the bigs. I use pallets that they can scoot under.

Keep us posted.

He is doing much better, it seems as though he may have an eye infection of some sort. I have him in side in a cage taking care of him. And from what we have witnessed it's the other small chick we have that is being mean to him. The peck on the top of his head isn't bad nor infectected. But I have been cleaning his wound plus his eyes, with the collided silver and he seems to be doing better thus far, thank you.
