Hey Flock! Me and my Father have just about finished a new chicken tractor, but are having an issue with the door... The coop part of the tractor is raised off the ground about 3 ft high, and the coop is 2 1\2 x 5' and like 3 ft high... The pop door needs to be on the bottom of the coop, but the roosting bars which are going to stretch all the way across, are only like 9" off the coop floor... Please help!

I’ve never had a tractor. Honestly my perches/roosts are only 6” from the floor in my tiny coop.
The coop floor itself is 4’ off the ground (no bending for this old lady).
I’ve had no problems. Poop is easy to remove. As long as my girls have room and aren’t crowed they’re happy.
Oh they don’t like change but they adapt. Give them some time to adjust.

is the door on the bottom? Thanks!

It will need to be larger door than it would on the side wall of the coop. Also the ramp will need to be longer than just the door dropping down like a drawbridge. You want the ramp to be at a good angle, but the girls will need some headroom as they come up the ramp through the floor, having a larger opening allows for this. Try and make it so the hole in the floor is not directly under the roosts.

Since it's a tractor, consider with your climate (and whether or not they are housed somewhere different at night that is secure from predators) if you even need a floor at all on the coop part. Just a thought. It may or may not work for you and your design.

thanks... The rooster (unfortunately) are right over where the door should go... The ramp is definitely not just the door dropped down! I'm kinda at a loss right now... I'll try and get some pics after this storm passes!
