Help with Avocado!!

Haha. No, I totally agree. And I love avocados. There are just times when they are not expensive here in CA, and I buy a bunch and one or two go bad before I use them. Or, I get them in the free toss away veggie box from the produce guy.

Since they are apparently bad for a variety of creatures I wonder if they will eliminate my compost mice....​

Just a thought as far as avocados or tomatoes or any of those things go. When I was younger I could just eat them one right after another from the backyard tree. Then out of the blue one day, many years later, I suffered a severe allergic reaction almost immediately after the tiniest taste. One day, when I was pregnant years later I was craving one so bad that I just had to take a small taste ready with antihistamine in hand (I was crazy when I was pregnant). I had no side effects at all!!! Long story short after some research and testing, come to find out that he problem was that the most popular avocados are grown using pesticide which is what I was actually allergic too. NOT the avocado itself!

My point is that I wonder if it could be the pesticide that killed some birds and not having the pesticide is why others don't have a problem. Any thoughts?

Interesting idea. Similar things can happen when certain varieties or batches of a fruit/veggie have a mold or fungus and others do not. Some children who get hives when they eat peanuts may be reacting the a fungus or fungucide on the nut rather than the peanut protein itself- also the fungus or pesticide can cause sensitivity and exacerbate any reaction to the plant product. I think the seed and skin containing persin is fairly well documented, but variations in pesticides etc. could cause each bird/fruit to be different. Mine were organic for what it's worth- and no problems.
