Help with BR gender....*updated pics* pg 3

Thanks!

I feel bad for my daughter. Its the only kind of chicken she has wanted, I've tired buying BRs at the sale 3 times now and all have turned out to be roos. Guess I am just not good at picking out hens. They hold them up so quick, its hard to tell.

Can't seem to find anyone around here with any for sale, that would honestly sell us a hen. Guess she is just going to have to wait and see if either of these chicks turns out to be a hen. But thats a long 6 month wait for a big BR hen.

Thanks everyone for your input! Its nice to have knowledgeable people to come to, even if you don't get the answer you want.

Guess I should have waited 4 days to post this

Definitely no question about his gender now, seeing as he learned how to crow this morning! Ugh!

This isn't always the case but the hens are usually darker then roos, so pick the darkest chicks if possible. Also, if the price is too good to be true they may all be roos and they are just trying to sell them.

Ok, last try...

Did we finally find a hen??? And is it a Barred Rock, or Cuckoo Marans? It seems to have a dusty brownish coloring, instead of all blackish/gray.

Hasn't laid an egg for us yet, but it took our other new hen a week to start laying after we got her. I am hoping this one isn't too old.

Thanks for looking

In the second pic the legs look pinkish, what color are they? If they are pinkish looking its a Cuckoo Marans, If the legs are yellow, then Barred Rock.

ETA: Its a nice looking Hen
