help with breed, gender and rooster question??

These little ones are now 5 weeks and have been moved outside (eggs came from lovemy chicklets)....need help on gender and breed...I know they are barnyard mixes but not what mixes.......naked neck is all I can say for sure.i think the 2 colored one is easter egger,,,,,,green legs...i also think roo..this one seems to be a bantam with feathered feet.this is an glw at 11 weeks doesn't seem to be growing much and I go back and forth on hen or roo (tsc special)this is my rooster at 17 weeks, he is replacing my leghorn who got to mean,,,,after getting rid of my leghorn I had a buff orphington hen take over the flock, she is okay with the roo untill he tries to mate with one of the young hens who are not laying yet, then she literally beats him up...Is this normal behavior.......his hormones are kicking in and he is all boy but not sure if any eggs are fertile yet............

U need to make a plan here are some tips . Do u waunt to all ur hens to have babies If u waunt to cross bread u would relly need tO match by ages but if u waunt a certin type then chose the hen and roo I recommend a blue haze and spekled roo . I recommend cros breeding Somme

Wow - looks like you have quite a few gorgeous chicks in there. I do hope you have an EE pullet as they lay the most beautiful colored eggs. I have a White Leghorn/Easter Egger mix pullet that lays the most beautiful blue egg - and so far she's laid one every day since she started nine days ago.

As far as what breeds - I can't help you much with that question, but I believe if you can capture them one by one and take pictures of their faces/combs, neck and tail feathers from above and make sure the pictures are clear - you can post them on the What Breed or Gender forum and they could help you out.

And in my limited knowledge of chickens (only been raising them about a year) - the combs on the cockerels will develop larger and show up earlier and be more red faster then the pullet's' comb. Also the cockerels are usually larger in size then the pullets if you have several from the same flock to compare - check the size of their legs and height/weight of the suspected cockerels to the pullets.

When you start mixing breeds - it becomes harder to sex them early, especially if they have pea combs - but it's not impossible.

A breeding pen is in the future plans but right now I am still not sure which breeds I want, this is only the second year of having birds for me....I have sold alot of chicks so far this year and my customers seem to want breeds that I do not have......for instance I got a bin of 44 barred rocks from the local feed store (they were 3 weeks at the time....I got them for free cause the store just needed to get rid of them) as soon as they were old enough to go outside they sold within a week,,,I kept 2 of these for myself, but no roosters in the bunch, this is why I need to get a better idea of what my mixes are so I can atleast tell customers what I think they are...so far in my area barred rock and easter eggers seem to be popular......I am expecting another call from the feed store they have a cuople of bins full of different breeds that are 2 weeks, only thing here is I never know what i am getting (but they are free)...guess they figure I have to buy feed so in the long run they are making money.
