Hi. We picked up some new chickens two weeks ago. I’ve noticed bubbles in the corner of the roosters eye. He’s not wheezy and there’s no pus. It’s just on one side. I’m hoping it’s not anything contagious. They are quarantined in a separate pen but it’s in the same area as my other chickens :(

Foam in an eye may be a symptom of mycoplasma gallisepticum or MG, a chronic respiratory disease. Mycoplasma is fairly common in backyard flocks, but if you have not dealt with respiratory diseases in your flock, you will not want to add him to your flock. Symptoms can be treated with antibiotics such as Tylan 50 injectable, denagard, tetracyclines, or Baytril, but the disease can make him a carrier for life.

Crap. So we just got 6 birds from the same person. I’m assuming all of them probably have this then? The new birds are in closed cages within my coop. Are my birds at risk now too?

Thanks for the quick reply :)
