Help with chicken beak dilemma...

My buff broke her beak a while back there was a crack maybe a little higher then the break in your picture. Honestly the crack was small arms hardly noticable unless you where looking for it. Eventually as the beak grew that spot weakened and fell off much like yours did. For mine there was some blood but nothing bad we just kept and eye on her. I normally feed treats aged such over cement to encourage beak trimming and nail scratching but while she was healing I strictly avoided this so as not to injure her. It's been probably 2 months since the tip fell off and you can no long tell she even had an issue.

Just keep an eye on her to make sure she is eating well. If she seems to be having trouble a deep bowl or wet feed can be helpful. With a break like that it just takes time to grow back sort of like a finger nail that gets ripped off into the nail bed.

This one got in a tussle with the dominant RIR when I first introduced them and there was some blood on her beak right below the nostril... it looked fine at the time so I just put some peroxide on it and let her go. Thinking now there may have been a deeper fracture that eventually caused it to split off.

That does look broken. The smaller part is likely the soft tissue, the 'quick', that was exposed.

I wondered if the beak had a “quick” like in a dog’s nails... that’s what it looked like. Thanks for all the stories and insight everyone. Feel a little less freaked out and will just keep an eye on her.
