Hi,
Sadie has what I'm 99% sure is a mild case of flavus {white/pale yellow powder on 'floppy' depression of comb}.
Our new vet suggested betadine, an iodine solution, topically, rather than lotrimin or a similar topical.
After applying, the comb seems to be peeling very, very thin layers.
Sadie is my first chicken, a 7 month old rescue roo who has unfortunately been living indoors as a sort of pet, due to medical necessity.
He's recovering from a leg amputation.
This spring, I hope to get him back on track in the ways or Roosterdom, but it's been TOO COLD for him to live a normal life here in Vermont, and I couldn't think of getting any new chicks for him to bond with until now.
The rest is a long story, but for now?
I need help with the comb, and possibly a feather issue, but comb first.
Please: how hard do I rub? Is the goal to remove 'excess' tissue, or could this be an allergic reaction to the iodine?
Will it hurt if I 'scrape' or 'rub', should I just let nature take its course?
Is it a good idea to rinse between applications? How many a day? On the whole comb, or just the affected area?
I did not dilute it, I just applied with a q tip and cotton ball.
If there is anyone of whom I may ask more detailed questions, I'd love to, but I did not want to take up too much of your time.
Thank you!
