It's been awhile since I have posted. I've definitely go more involved with various flocks this last year. I started raising quail. I really adore these lil guys.

My problem is I can't seem to find decent descriptions of colors, it seems many look similar but different names. So if someone would be kind enough to help me out that would be awesome. Of course the white one is simple, he actually has blue eyes.

4,7,11,12 not feather-sexable
How confident are you about vent sexing vs feather sexing?
I’ve read that they can be vent sexed (by shape) at a day, or after 4+ weeks (by shape, and foam)?

I have several that “should” be able to be sexed by breast feather colors, but the vent sexing is indicating that they are not “conforming” to the “standards”.
I don’t have birds from a reputable hatchery to be clear, (bought them locally), but, from what I understand for the varieties that are sex linked, the spotted breast feathers = female, and the less spotted/ more white breasts being male.

....the protective foam for the males at about 6 weeks of age... I trust more than breast feather color 😬

I’m also looking for info on color identification, but not looking to steal the thread from the OP!

If anyone has an article w pictures, or, is OK w a DM, I’d love to know!

I’m new to Cortunix as well. I also have some celadon and giant Cortunix eggs in my bator rn.

The celadon eggs are not as blue as I’d hoped. But that is a query for a different thread!

I used to have a bunch of quail that looked just like that! I used to have a white one except he had a brown dot on his head. I had no idea what they were.😂 you have very cute quail!

I sexed mine by rear as well. I marked males with green leg bands. I'll have to see if this is correct.

Thank you for your help!! I really had trouble with pearl and fees. Some identification looks so closely alike.
