Hi all- I have a hen that just returned from the vet after I noticed lethargic behavior, vomiting and a very swollen crop. Xray doesn't show any obvious foreign bodies, and they emptied out her crop and kept her overnight with glucose and some antibiotics. The next day she seemed a little better, but today is very weak again. Crop isn't as swollen as before but she still seems to vomit when she tries to eat.

I put her back in the coop with my broody girls to rest (she seems to want to sleep) and take her out periodically to try to tempt her to eat again.

Should I take her back to the vet for another round of crop emptying? The concern is that she is now very underweight and a blockage might be caused by a growth. She seems to drink a lot but has barely any interest in food. Poo is still watery and green. I'm just afraid that it might be her time, but I want to make sure I'm doing all I can to save her if she can be saved.

Have you tried a good dose of olive oil and a crop massage? I know they "emptied" her crop - but perhaps there's still something lodged at the bottom. Applesauce with the olive oil might act as a bit of a laxative. If you decide it's a growth, then the humane thing may be to put her down. I'm really sorry.
