Hello,

I need some help, i have a cochin bantam 8.5 years of age. She has been having a what i think acidity issues. I can barely hear some gurgling sounds from her, she also open mouths breaths most of the day, BUT NOT 24/7. She is eating and drinking normally, her poop solid too, comb colour is normal.

She quit laying years ago, so i know for sure that its not EYP or any other egg related issues. I am starting to get worried, she is also sneezing right after she open mouth breaths. No mucus, no swollen eye, no bubbly eye etc.

I did gave her antibiotics recommended from a vet, he thought it might be an infection, but the antibiotics course was only for a week and it did work a bit, but didint last long.

It is minus degrees and freezing in Norway, and she likes to stand by the heater most of the day with her eyes closed.

Her feathers are fluffy, clean and shiny and if anybody that does not see her everyday could never tell that something is off. :(

I gave her some animal friendly med for pain relief called metacam, that didnt do the trick either.

Today i decided to start giving her ACV in her drinking water. What else can i do? Has anybody experienced this before.

Thank you for your help.

Are you keeping her inside? And for how long has she been inside for?

I'm suspecting this is more in line with sinus infection(None Disease Related), but from common house contaminants like dust, dust mites, etc.
Do you have VetRX available where you live? It's like Vick's Vapor Rub, but for Poultry.

Thanks for replying, yes she is indoors in our basement. Could be, i have VETRX for poultry on hand. I dripped some on her head, beak amd wingpit yesterday. But right know she is on ACV for a week, is it bad?

Apply on her face, near the nostrils, & smear some inside the top of her mouth(Soft Pallet).

ACV is okay, but it's not gonna do much. Won't hurt to give probiotics to help with gut bacteria balance.

We’ll do, also she has been inside since november with the other flock mates, its dangerous and mad weather with ton of snow and dropping temperatures😭
Chickens are very hardy. Mine are out in their coops, & went through brutal temperatures fairly well.
