Help with gift for 11 year old .....

My very close friends 11 year old daughter has taken the number one spot, in some sort of national scholastic contest, (I'll get more details today) and I would like to get her a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) gift, or something to reward her for her achievements.

I have NO idea what kind of learning based gift an 11 year old girl would like. I'll ask her mother what she thinks, but would also like to know if any of y'all have ever used a service like Kiwico, or similar, where they send a project box every month or something. I looked at the Kiwico site, and there is not much info on what the projects are, just a base age range, and a very general description of the project "line".

Also, any STEM based gift option suggestions are welcome.

My little brother gets the KiwiCo packages every month. He has a lot of fun doing them.
He builds robots, machines, and toys out of wood that teach him something about science (friction, electricity, centrifugal force, etc.)
He has the tinker crate, but I might get the slightly harder one for her.

Arduino and Raspberry Pi are other options. You can learn to automate virtually anything with them as base platforms including automating coop doors and incubators.
