Since it seems like guneas run away easily, do they go "home" like chickens? Or will they grow up and find their own homes out in the woods? If they live outside of a protected house, how are you supposted to keep them safe? Or will they do that themselves?

Ozark Hen, Here are the two new guineas, I believe they are Purple's

I went by Estes on Friday and they didn't have any guineas, but, there was a guy in there and he said he had some young ones. He lives in Carthage which is much closer to me, went there today and got five from him, he thought they were Pearls. Also another guy called my Mom and said he had picked up about 20 at a sale, so I am getting four from him on Tuesday, shhhh That will put me at 13, guess I got that flock after all,

How cool are they??? You are so lucky! Congrats to you! I ended up brush-hogging for the entire afternoon while DH was doing some wiring so the coop could have electric in it. He didn't get done but had me get off the tractor at 4:15 ( I mowed in the blazing sun since 12:45) as he said I had had enough???! As soon as he got on the tractor it clouded up real good and then one hour later it started to pour! ha ha I really didn't want to get off the tractor as I love mowing. My one adult guinea when let out of the coop this morning ran to the edge of the woods and started calling his mate again, she has been gone for about 2-3 weeks. I followed him in slippers and nightshirt into the woods. I got distracted by some mushrooms and sight of him. I haven't seen him since. Really weird as he stayed glued to the five adult chickens since he lost his mate. My DH said he saw him about 11 this morning but every time I have gone out and called I hear and see nothing of him. Thank goodness I still have his 13 keets that I am raising. They still panic when I feed and water them!? I am thrilled you got a nice flock, keep posting pictures of them, ok?
chicksrule: I posted updated photos of the keets today on the australorp hatches guinea thread under Other Poultry.

Hopefully he will come in around dark???? I love being on the tractor as well, I'm usually the one that rakes the hay, and gets to do the brush hogging, anything to keep from doing inside work, lol
The guy I got these from today, he sells to Estes, hope he didn't get into too much trouble for offering to sell to me, lol Apparently Estes isn't having much luck with their hatches this year. This guy today has alot of Pheasants, Peacocks, Ducks, Geese, Silkies, Cochins, Jungle Fowl, Turkeys, etc.. Sure glad I met him, may end getting me into some trouble though, lol Oh well.
