Got too worried and started to but stopped and it's still moving, chirping and no blood so I hope it'll still be okay. I was so afraid it couldn't breath being on the opposite side of the airsac. The other chick came out if it's she'll with no issues and is really active inside the incubator and then there's another egg that's still peeping through its egg very slowly but making progress. I think it'll hatch soon.
When assisting, you want to chip away at the shell going from right to left. This resemble zipping. Keep an eye on the membrane. If it starts to go yellow/brown apply some coconut oil to keep it moist. @SmiYa0126 gave you a good article to look at.
So at this point should I just leave that chick alone and hope it fully absorbs its last blood vessels and hatch on its own? I'm so worried since it peeped on the wrong end of its shell away from the airsac and then it got its beak out and was chirping like crazy so I panicked and tried to help it a tiny bit. I did apply some oil to the membrane which had been white before and after the oil I could see through the membrane and saw tiny blood vessels still so I stopped doing anything and placed it back into the incubator. There's luckily no blood and its still chirping and seems to be trying to do something but he's made no more progress yet. Maybe he's waiting for the blood vessels to be fully absorbed? What's also odd is he is the one that peeped first year the other egg hatched before this one. Is there anything I should be doing besides keeping the humidity up and just letting this chick do its own thing?
If there is red then I would leave it to absorb.
Read through the article I linked, there's a section on malpositioned chicks. I had to assist an egg, I did the chipping of the egg shell like a chick would zip and then the chick pushed out on its own, that was after 24 hours. It's ok if some are faster than others, that's perfectly normal.Also, one of the other eggs has also pipped a small amount on the wrong side away from the airsac and its not made any more pips and hasn't gotten its beak out of the shell at all so I'm worried its going to suffocate. It's only been like 8 hours since it made the small pip, but can it breath like this? I took it out briefly to candle it to check it and I could see movement in the egg. At what point should I start to worry if it's not made any progress to get air?If there is red then I would leave it to absorb.
As long as there is an external pip he can breathe. If there has been no progress in 24 hours you should assist.
Yes, it can breathe, you can carefully peel the egg shell from the place that it pipped to see if there's a hole, but be careful I did that once and I peeled the membrane more and the chick got shrink wrapped. This is a nerve-wracking time, I got so little sleep during the hatch. I feel for you!
