The 1583 is the picture window that is not digital.

It is holding steady at 85.6???? I have tried getting it to go up, but it just keeps staying there?

What am I doing wrong?

I believe this the wafer model. Your wafer may be bad or not adjusted properly.

I got a 1602 that had been used to hatch reptiles and had to twist the adjustment lever many times to "increase" before it got right. Took me two days to get it up to 100, a few turns at a time. It has been holding really steady and has a dozen marans eggs in it right now.

Yeah, it is the wafer model. So one turn on the screw brings it up like one or two degrees? Would it be easier to crank it up and then bring it down?

you can take the wafer out completely and see if the temp goes up.. just keep in mind that the heating element will not turn off..

You might have a leak in your wafer

can you smell something like lighter fuel or alcohol ??

You can see if the wafer is working by running cold and then hot water over it out of the faucet. It should swell and shrink accordingly..

It is the wafer model, I have one. Try turning the level screw up to see if the temps rises. and or new batteries in your thermometer.

No it's not the thermometer. I just checked all 3 of mine in the same bator a few days ago and they were within +/- .5 of each other. I think I'm just not turning it enough. I'm used to the LG where you barely have to touch it to get it to go up!

The 1583 is very easy to adjust mine has stayed at the correct temp since the first day I got it and set it up. Tweak it alittle at a time. I did buy extra wafers incase they ever went out on me but after 300 chicks mine is still running perfectly.
