Help with identifying 2 hens

We bought these hens a week ago, we are very new at this and need some help identifying them and/or confirming their age. We were told they are a year and a half old and are molting, and they haven't laid any eggs for us yet. Is this normal? Thanks!

They look like hatchery Rhode Island Red hens. I'd believe they're molting, they have pale combs and looks like feather loss. Depending on the bird, the molt may only last a few weeks, or a few months. At this age, I never expect my birds to start laying again until spring, although mine don't usually molt this early, more like October.
