This is my second year of raising chickens. Last year we got a red frizzle that turn out to be a roo. We tried another frizzle this year. I think we have a roo again. Any help would be appreciated.

He/she is 9 weeks - was bought as a frizzle. It is smooth so I don't know what that makes it. Our last one was curly.

Just because a parent was a frizzle doesn't mean that all of the chicks will be. A chicks feathers will come in frizzled so the moment they come in, if you are observant you'll know if you have one with the frizzled appearance. How old was he when you bought him?

Frizzles describe different breeds with the frizzled gene. For instance, I have a Cochin who is a frizzle. Frizzle isn't her breed. Her sister has smooth feathers so she is only known as being a Cochin. Both are the same breed, one just has the gene for frizzled feathers. I'd post in the "what breed am I" thread if you don't know the parents of him.

I would guess he is a Cochin or Cochin Bantam [aka. Pekin in places where it is considered a seperate breed.]
