Sorry it didn't work out with the remaining eggs. It's easy to feel sad for the unhatched chicks, which is the normal emotion to have. I must not be normal, because I don't look at it as losses. They were simply eggs to begin with, and due to all the variables, there's no guarantee any egg will hatch. Instead of dwelling on some eggs that didn't hatch, rejoice in knowing that some did. Broody birds know what's going on inside those eggs, so if she abandons them or kicks them out, there's usually a good reason. Your mum bird focused on ensuring the survival of the two she knew would survive, and now you have two beautiful balls of fuzz to enjoy. Congratulations!!!I had 6 eggs to begin with so it's sad to only get 2 chicks. One was completely unfertile at candelling & one hatched and I think a rat must of got in and snatched it as all was left was half a shell!
They're all pretty happy, I've had to move them indoors as my other chickens have taken to kicking the chicks out the nest when they wanna get in haha! So we're all indoors and hanging outI didn't wanna seperate mum from them so decided I'd rather reintroduce her and the babies when they're ready.
