One of my chicks pasted up overnight, and when i woke up it was really bad. I tried to wash it out with water, but that didn't work. Then I tried pulling out the poop and got a bit of it out but the chick complained loudly, so i tried to cut it out of her feathers with scissors, which was painless to her but made her lose some feathers around her vent. This looks unusual to my other 2 chicks, and now they are pecking it. What should i do?

Now her legs (perfectly walkable and perchable and scratchable) have now turned from orange to blue. She is a Delaware pullet, 5 days old.

if you got the poop out she ill be fine. i had the same problem. let her deal with it. it will look irritated and it is, but as long as air is getting to it it will eventually heal. As for the chicks pecking at it, my dear Luna had the same problem. Just let them do what they are doing. just let nature take its course. i know it looks bad, but it is nature.

I've heard a product called bluecoat will help with the pecking. It's an ointment you put on the injury. They are pecking at it because it is red. If the pecking gets out of hand you may have to seperate her for a few days to let it heal.

Once it's clean and healed you can apply some olive oil to the area. It'll stop the poop sticking again. I found Apple Cider Vinegar in their water helps prevent it.

Did you ever get a response to the proportions of cider vinegar to water? What was the information you received about the olive oil? Thanks, I'm new to this and want to do the right thing for my peeps.

1-2 tablespoons per gallon of unfilter ACV. DO NOT use it in a metal waterer. It will have an adverse reaction with the plating on the metal. The olive oil you rub on their bum to keep the poop from sticking.

Ok, I have bad news. The same chick, every morning when I get up to check on them, has poop sticking to her feathers around her vent and is sometimes pasted up. Every single morning. I try to fix it, but she is losing more and more fluff and I'm worried that she's not completely healthy. Any ideas? I'm extremely attached to her, and I want her to be ok. She's a delaware, if that makes a difference. She is the fluffiest chick of the 3 I have, which might contribute to the problem.

Try the ACV in the water and possibly give her a little plain yogurt. Might get her digestive system functioning properly. Heat can also give them pasty butt. No fluff on her bum will not hurt her, some even recomend trimming the fluff off. Usually about every 8-10 times they do their bussiness it's really nasty. They periodically flush their systems out. Hopefully it's not serious.

Ok, help one more time please. The chick in question who kept getting sick is much better from pasty butt...

but this one chick just keeps surprising me.

She acts fine, walks perfectly, can perch on my finger, and pecks and scratches at bedding with her feet.
When she was one day old, her feet were orange.

Now they are blue.
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS CHICK?
