Help with raising Light Braham chicks

I have a hatchery Light Brahma pullet. I don't think she's 8 lbs, guessing more like 6. She's definitely the biggest of my three, however! I've fed them all exactly the same and she seems to be thriving. That's her on the left.

No need to get your hackles raised. Chris was answering your question as to how hatchery birds will not reach nearly the size of a bird bred towards the standard.

A show Brahma and a hatchery Brahma are at complete opposites ends of the hatchery vs. show perspective. That being said, Brahmas are at the larger end for hatchery birds but being from a hatchery, will not have any leg problems because they are similar in size to the other large fowl breeds bred from a hatchery.

I've never had problems with my Brahmas and leg issues. Mine were fed the same thing the rest of the breeds were. They are a slow breed to mature and lay.

I raised dark and light Braham chicks this year. They are 18 weeks now. The light Braham pullets and roosters are a third bigger than the dark Braham chickens. That surprised me!! I plan on keeping the light Braham chickens unless anyone else has a size comparison. Interestingly enough the hawks don't come close to the chickens even when they are free ranging!

Just got me 10 chicks of these birds. I was setting and watching them and they are sure not lazy. Even as a chick they are every where.I can say one thing and that is I sure don't know how to tell the rooster from the hens. Does anyone on this site? I guess that they will be brown in color also. What do you know I love only the blue color so what am I doing getting brown birds. Crazy thinking I guess. They are such fun to watch and I enjoy that part.
