I haven't culled a chickens yet, but that seems to me like a horrible and long way to kill them
as far as your roo goes, you need to show him you are the boss. when my BR tests me every now and then, i give him a boot....he backs off. bring a broom in with you and when he comes at you, whack him. if he comes back for more.....get rid of him!
I think she's doing a great service by taking care of what needs to be done in a humane way. But, if you're being attacked, I think simply breaking his neck and being done with it is just fine too.
What always works for me is to hand feed the rooster some bread crusts everday for a couple of weeks. They usually eat some but also drop a lot of them to the ground for the hens, thereby making brownie points with them in his mind. After a couple of weeks he probably wont regard you as a threat but as something that brings goodies. I have chased, pushed and held aggresive roosters with no luck. The treat method usually works, give it a try before you turn him into soup.
I had 3 act like that haven't ate em yet but one (lf) got the broom and learned pretty quick I have 2 OEGBs one still has issues occasionally but I hold him where he can't move much till he stops strugglin and he's good for about a month lol then I have my baby blue he has issues with light colored shoes so my thing with him is just don't wear them he is fine with black brown any dark colored shoe but I have a pair of light silvery shoes that he goes crazy at thank god he's tiny lol I haven't figured out his issue with the shoes yet I've had him since he was an egg lol but if they hadn't learned their lessons I def. would not still have them

So you showed him who's boss! Establishing a pecking order, this tactic works.
When your rooster starts to challenge your authority, you need to shut him down right away. If you keep fighting with him he'll think he has a chance. I had a rooster start up with me and I threw him against the wall(it was wire so he bounced). But it was enough to rattle his every fiber. He was a pleasure to be around after that, he got over it, and I guess he realized attacking me was pointless.
I kinda see it as you would treat a 1000 pound horse... You can NOT let them walk all over you.... show them YOU are boss they back off.... I have to put a horse in it's place from time to time who think they can get into my space..... same goes for a 200 pound miniature horse or a 20 pound rooster....
