Hi there!

I got these chicks at RK a few weeks ago. I feel reasonably confident that Connie is a Starlight Green Egger and Violet an Americana. I’m interested in what you all think. I have no idea what Caro is. She has yellow legs. The breed options were: Americana, Olive Egger, Prairie Bluebell Egger, Sapphire Olive Egger, Starlight Green Egger, Midnight Majesty Marans, French Black Copper Marans, or Cuckoo Marans.

attaching pics from when I got them and now (3 weeks old).

Thanks for any help!

To my understanding of Easter Egger's come in basically any color. It appears Starlight's come in red varieties, while Bluebells are like Easter Egger's. Unlike Ameraucanas they don't have 'standard' colors which honestly is one of my favorite parts of the breed :) Connie or Caroline could be a Starlight but honestly I'd just say you have a pretty mix of pretty "Egger's" no specific breed names needed :D Countess Violet is my favorite with that classic EE beard <3

Ah... see, I thought all EE had green legs and cheek poufs.

I've seen EEs sold who didn't have a beard, or a big beard, it's not as common but happens. Both of my large fowl EE mixes lack a bird but makeup for it in personality! You might be able to better identify which exact 'egger' breed they are once they fully feather out or even once eggs are laid if the breed matters to you, they're looking like they're gonna feather out to be gorgeous birds <3

Thanks! My current and former EE both have beards and cheek poufs and green legs. I had always read EEs have green legs, so the yellow legs had me confused.

I do think Connie is a starlight though, she is getting redder by the day and looks very similarly shaded for the adult photos I’ve seen. 😊

I guess time will tell. I’d love for one to be a Bluebell Egger. Here’s hoping!

EE or Easter Egger is a general term for any chicken that lays blue or green eggs. Many are wanna-be Ameraucanas, so they have the muff/beard and pea comb. But lately there are a bunch of new types being sold by hatcheries under an amazing variety of names. In that list of breeds you gave, Marans (any color) should lay dark brown eggs; but everything else on the list could be considered an Easter Egger.

I don't think any of yours are Marans, so you can reasonably expect eggs in some shade of blue/green/olive :)

sadly, I don’t think any are Marans either. I wish I’d googled photos of maran chicks before picking. I do have a Welsummer so, I’ll have chocolate eggs, just not BCM dark. :)
