OK first I had a chick that I hatched out the beginning of Feb she was a SLW she just died tonight, about a week or 2 ago I noticed she wasn't acting "right" just slower than usual and not staying with her group. So I brought her inside and she ate but not as much but seemed to be getting better. There was never any discharge of any kind from nose or eyes no wheezing sneezing or anything. Today she was fine and an hour ago I noticed her falling over, I picker her up and 2 minutes she acted like she had a seizure and she is dead. I had been giving her a few drops of poultry drench in her water as well and she was kept in the house so she was warm.

She was 2 months old. After she died a yellowish smelly discharge came out of her nose and mouth.

Next I have a rooster who is a year old, has been walking "strange" for over 2 weeks, he walks and stretches his right leg out in front like its stiff, I felt his leg and there is a noticeable difference in the size of his "drumstick" the one he is stretching and walking funny on is the one that's bigger, I looked and I see nothing broken or sore, or a scratch nothing, now in the last few days he has been hanging by himself eating a little but he has white poo on his tush feathers and I have noticed diarrhea. Could these two be related. I am freaking out now that something might be brewing in my flock. My rooster is a big beautiful EE.

Thanks for any post or ideas, are there any good broad spectrum antibiotics

again, I'm no chicken expert, but a lot of chicken starters and growers are treated with antibiotics was hers? Why I ask is because if the stuff came out it smelled and the color you described sounds as though she had an infection. Chicks are susceptible to a certain, strain of mycoplasm, that is really hard to treat. I don't know about your Roo do you have any other chickens? His doesn't sound bacterical you can treat him profalacticly and isolate him, as you don't want to treat your layers with the same antibiotics as him. Just a thought.

First decide if they had something , how would they get it? What are you feeding them, what is in their water, what are they eating other than feed? One chicken sick could just be a fluke. Two with different symptoms the same. Two with the same symptoms signals a problem.
Go to the beginning and post the information in order. Pics are helpful.

Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Make a check list and see how your measureing up.
What type of feed and how often.
What type of vitamins and how often.
Any sudden changes in feed or treats.
Water changed how often?
Water container, open or closed?
Water containers cleaned how often?
Free range?
Worm once in a while, month, bi yearly?
Deep litter? Clean how often?
Ventilation, good, fair , poor?
coop smell?
coop temp? cooler is better.
coop humidity level?

Just some things to think about.
Need more information to diagnose anything. Never give medicines unless your sure or have some idea what is wrong. What is "poultry drench"? What did she have that you thought this would help? What is poultry drench for?

there is a great thread going on mycoplasmas going with well informed chicken people offering sound advice, i know it's tuff lost 2 friends in 2 weeks, and 3rd heading that way. have spent over $300 in vet bills and different antibiotics all no luck..... but if i can keep the other 35 flock/family members it will be worth it

Hi Brandibaby,
I rescued 2 chickens from a chicken house about 5 weeks ago. 1 died a week ago with the same symptoms you described. She was 8 weeks old. The other 1, Miss Winners seems to be doing fine and she is growing. I bought 2 baby silkies 2 weeks ago and I keep them seperated from Miss Winners as a precaution. I read that she might have a very infectious disease or it just might be vent disease, which is not contagious. I am just waiting to see what happens, as I was told meat hens do not live long. She is a pet now and we love her dearly. I do not know what to tell you except to seperate them until you know for sure. Hope this helps!

Right now I have about 30 birds, and the only one with any signs of anything strange is my roo who I explained has a sore leg and it is much bigger than the other it feels very firm like muscle, not like swelling or pus or anything Idk he doesn't breath funny or have any discharge. They eat a mix of grower, scratch and poultry ration. PLus they are entirely free range.
