In the Brooder

I have a chick that hatched yesterday and no one is taking responsibility! I have one rooster so that part is obvious, however, it was my 2 guinea hens that became the broody nannies. After the little one hatched, the guineas panicked and the other 15 hens wanted nothing to do with this little creature. I had to take it out of the area because they all started trying to hurt it. It is in the tote brooder in the house, I have been giving it droplets of water and I know it should start to eat soon, but my concern is that it hasn't stood or walked around. It has moved away from its plushy surrogate and back by belly scooting. The legs seem ok and not wry. Could it be that this little fluffbutt is just tire from its long day of hatching? When should I become concerned and what should I be doing for it? All of my other birds were 3-5 day old when I got them, so this is new to me.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you

Im so sorry.

So, sometimes hens will abandon the chicks. Thats how it is with chickens, anyway, i would assume it would be similar for guineas.

Birds will not be all zoomy right after hatch, it took a day for mine to start walking like a normal chick, however i would get more chicks so its not lonely, and insure a proper brooder with heat is all set up.

Best of luck! Pictures would also be useful but i seriously doubt this is of concern, is the fluff all wet and soggy looking? If it is, it will definitely not be active. Also, do not be alarmed if they don’t eat right away! They still absorb their yolk after hatch, so it can take a while for them to eat. For chickens, that takes about a day, but insure food is there just in case! You also should teach the baby how to drink water aswell by gently putting the tip of its beak in water, and showing it how aswell with your finger.

It actually hatched yesterday afternoon, it is a chicken chick-my guineas just decided that they were going to hoard some eggs in the nest. It is fluffy and dry and did make it through the night in my living room brooder. I have been dipping its beak in the waterer (quail font) and syringe on my finger. There is starter crumble sprinkled nearby on the floor of the brooder. Im just a nervous Nelly....
Unfortunately adding more chicks isn't an option right now. We are actually trying to sell our house and move......all 16 chickens+1, 2 guineas, 2 Ringneck Pheasants and 2 Bobwhite quail (live inside the house) will be going with us, possibly across the country.
Thank you for your response, I do feel a little more at ease :)

Woah that's more than a full house. I wish you luck it's not going to be easy task for the move. And hopefully your move will be in the fall/winter/spring.
We are shooting for springtime, if our house sells then we will move into our cabin across the street and just wait until the weather clears.

Got it! Sorry for mis-understanding. My bad.

So, when did it hatch exactly? Do you know? It looks really new, so i doubt it won’t be energetic to soon. I would also recommend having it in a small container so she may eat without looking for it on the floor.
also, insure she can’t drown in the waterer, she looks smaller and thats always something to be aware of, it absolutely can happen so make sure its shallow but deep enough to get water. You probably know this, i just felt i should add it in.

That is a full house! I definitely get it. Heres what i suggest
If not even getting a single chick (which, yes, is hard to come across, normally they sell in pairs or more.) is possible, i recommend adding a mirror, but do note: a single chick WILL need lots and lots of attention. That is no exaggeration.

And, your absolutely not a nervous Nelly, its always good to double check and make sure rather then assume its nothing and something bad happen.

It hatched yesterday afternoon. The brooder is a tote with a heatlamp (temp 104 degrees), thermometer, plushy surrogate and fur pouch, quail water font and crushed started crumble. When I had the original group 2 years ago, I had 18 pheasants chicks, 12 chicken chicks and 6 guinea keets contained with heat lamps and baby gates within an 8' splash pool in my living room.
I never thought of a mirror. It is near the quail cage and they are talking to it. I also have an orpington hen that is spending nights in the house in a kennel due to a muscle injury. Its a good thing that the husband is away for work 4 days a week :p although he tolerates my babies. BTW, the rooster in my profile picture is Winston......the father of this little fluffbomb.

Im sure you know this aswell, but a warning: she might not now, but when she gets a bit older, she will try to hop the tote, so make sure its high enough to not hop over.

Correct me if im wrong, but i think it needs to be 95 degrees, and reduce 5 degrees every week.
My chickens love mirrors.

Love your rooster and chick! Just absolutely stunning. Best of luck!
