Hi - We are new to chickens; received 6 chicks hatched by my son's friend - they are now 6 weeks old. Wondering if we can tell the sexes. His rooster is a Black Austrolorp. The hens were Buff Orpington (2 eggs), a Black Austrolorp (1 egg), Plymouth Barred Rock (1 egg), and Delaware (2 eggs).

The Australorp (only purebred, but feathery feet?)

As I'm not familiar with chicken behavior, I feel like they are all acting like roosters at one point or another, except for maybe the last chick. I hope I don't have 5 roosters...Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks.

I am not going to hazard a guess, but it sure seems like you have some large combs for 6 weeks. BTW I love your BO Crosses, they look like Halloween.

Sadly, most of them look male :(
The australorps may just have some feather legged breed in their lineage.
They're not supposed to have feathery legs but that gene is pretty tenacious.

This is not looking good! Do roosters ever cohabitate nicely, or is it always a case of whittling down to one (or none)? The speckled one is the nicest one of the bunch, loves to be held and pet, so if he is a rooster I'd keep him...

So far they all look like roos except for the last one. Update us in about two more weeks and maybe some will have grown into those combs
