Help with skunk in trap!

YES! DISPOSE OF THE SKUNK! IF THEY ARE THAT CLOSE TO THE HOUSE, THEY COULD HAVE RABBIS! AND YOUR DOGS ARE NOT STUPID....GRRRR....THEY ARE PROTECTING THEIR TERRITORY! IF YOU TRAP AN RELEASE, YOU GIVE YOUR TROUBLES TO SOMEONE ELSE WHICH IS NOT NICE.....NO ONE WANTS ANOTHER'S PROBLEMS. SKUNKS EAT EGGS AND BABY KITTENS! ........................................................................................:barnieNOT SCREAMING...HAVE POOR EYESITE AND HAND IN CAST!

The best pet I ever had was a skunk. I wish I could be lucky enough for a family of them to take up residence near me, but I guess I live in too suburban an area. Personally, I'd release him and shore up the coop so he could not harm my chickens.

please don't listen if someone tells you to drown it. thats one of the cruelest things to do(besides, you'd have to get too close to it) rain gear sounds good. i have always been OK with throwing a blanket over it and certainly shooting it is probably the smartest/quickest death. and I agree- my dog was stupid enuf to approach a skunk after several seconds of the skunk warning him. dogs need to learn what NO means. good luck!

Rooster#3 :

if you can legally shoot guns in your neighbor hood you can REALLY quietly sneak up with a shotgun that has always worked for me

I'm just curious here...how well does the Havahart trap handle the shotgun blast? I normally use a .22LR to dispatch critters in my trap, it just seems a shotgun would rip it up pretty bad.

if he has alrady sprayed recently he does not have a big supply left. just walk up to the trap quietly and shoot with a 22 threw the lung heart area.

Dh dispatched the skunk with a 22. He said it seemed more hunane than the way animal contro dispatched the last one. They stuck it foot or five times with a tranquilizer dart and it took about half hour to die. The 22 was instantanious. Thanks for everyones suggestions!

i used #5 high brass in a stoger o/u 20 gau with a full choke from 10 yards and 2 shotgun blasts in the same place dented it less than a Quarter or an inch. o and by the way i shot it twards the back of the trap where the wire grid patern it really tight.
I plan on takeing my havaharts and reenforceing them with wire cage clips (the kind used to make a rabbit cage) on all joints because my dad knows a guy who had a coon rip a trap apart at the seams.
