I have a baby chick that was born EARLY this morning at 3:30 with some assistance and it seems very weak. I have put it in a brooding box by its self, because the other chicks were beating it to death and it really didn't have the strength to get away from them. I have a stuffed animal in w/it and I have showed it the water, but it does not seem to be picking up in momentum. Is there any thing I can do for it?

It sounds like you are doing everything you can. Keep it warm and continue to encourage it to drink. Maybe someone else has additional information. Good luck. We'll be pulling for you!

We are far from experienced, but we gave our weak chicks vitamins, yogurt, and warm sweetened milk from a dropper. They are still half the size of the others, but they eat and drink on their own now. Make sure they can get plenty of rest and warmth.

Thanks it doesn't seem like he is doing very good! He is just laying in there. It is really breaking my heart.

I really hope he makes it!!!

Sweetened milk is just regular milk. Down here we call it sweet milk, or buttermilk if it's not. Or maybe they meant condensed milk. I would suggest dissolving sugar in water, and feeding with an eyedropper. I have not had any luck with the ones that have to be helped out of the egg. There is usually some problem with them as to why they can't get out, and lots of times we can't overcome the problems for them. But good luck and let us know!

Sometimes it's just not to be. I had a chick that wouldn't eat or drink. The other chicks trampled all over it so I took it out of the brooder and took it in the house and out it on a heating pad. No matter how hard I tried it died. Right after it died I wondered if there was something that I could have done but didn't. The answer was no. It just wasn't meant to be. Sometimes they do rally.

I am very sorry to report that the little chick passed away in the middle of the night.

All the rest are doing fine and I have a couple more that are hatching this morning!

How many days should the chicks hatch? I had 31 eggs and they have been hatching since Friday.

Thanks for all your help.
