Help with wheezing hen!

Hi there and welcome to Backyard chickens! Glad you joined us, but sorry to hear about Dora. :( You have gotten great advice, and @blairctchickens went above and beyond to help you find some informative links. Good luck with her and I hope you enjoy BYC!

Thanks for the response tetracycline is the medication I started her on yesterday. She's been separated from the others since I noticed the wheezing on Wednesday. They are indeed pets but we also don't want her to suffer. Today she is very perky and wanting to rejoin her friends....she is eating and drinking. Do you think I should still switch to baby food?

The baby food is just because its high protein. If she is eating normally then you don't have to switch. Baby food helps if they are eating but not as much as they should. It gets more protein into their system. You should probably keep her segregated for two weeks after she stops showing signs of infection. Keep her on the antibiotics the whole time. If she is showing improvement this fast then she will probably be fine, but you dont want to put her in with the rest of the flock while she may still be contagious.

Me again! So this morning Dora was clucking to her friends! I haven't heard her voice in so long!! She still has a tiny wheeze but seems like she's on the mend! Fingers crossed!

Keep up the treatment. Sounds like it is working.

Good morning! To my pleasant surprise Dora laid an egg this morning and is clucking away in the garage. Guess she's feeling better. So far the other 5 are unaffected!

Dora laid another egg today. I feel so bad keeping her away from her friends.
