HELP!! Wrong end pip?!?! (Oh No! Complications!!!)

She did have the normal green and white gunk come off her bum. Im hoping its a good sign!!

I have a dish cloth folded so it makes a nice little cave for them to crawl into. The yellow chick (broken egg) keeps flipping over. Its going to be a loooong night.

Ive got 2 more pippers in the bator!
That's good.

Perfect! I They like having something over their heads, it makes them feel safe. They don't seem to kind if everything else is sticking out, as long as their heads are covered they're happy! See if you can tuck the yellow chick in so the cloth supports her, maybe that will help.

I think she was so sticky because you kept her in the paper towel and she was really moist. I know one time I had to go out of town just as my chicks were hatching and hubby had to take care of them. He had the humidity way too high and the last chick to hatch was waterlogged and the temp in the bator dropped so when I got home I had a freezing wet chick. I took her out put her under my shirt to get her warm then when she was stable blowdried her. Her feathers were stiff for a few days. That yellow to me looks like yolk. I wonder if she didnt get it all absorbed. She is extremely tired thats why she keeps flipping. I say keep her warm and let her rest. I think if she made it this far she has a good chance.

Well here she is, now that i got home. She ate a crumble. Her face doesnt seem as puffy and I saw a bright green poop on the floor, I dont know if its hers though.

Well, "The Blob" is up and walking! He is curious and talkative and even tried to eat his new sisters toes. So far so good. Lets hope he can make it past the 1 week mark.

I want to thank Sumi and everyone else who have been supportive in this whole thing. This being my first hatch, I learned A LOT. Like getting a humidity gauge is my next priority. I dont think humidity was a problem in the brooder, but I think wrapping the egg is such damp paper towels made him act like a sponge. After all, they are in absorption mode during this time. I will keep everyone up to date on little Blob.

I hope she will continue to thrive. I'm looking forward to more good updates and pics!

A hygrometer is invaluable when you incubate. My incubator came without and I went and bought one before I set any eggs. I need to know what's going on in there! When assist I wet the membrane before replacing the egg in the incubator and keep the humidity around 70%. Then if the membrane dries out and sticks to the chick I carefully dampen it before removing it. I know lots of people wrap them in damp towels, but doing it this way works fine for me. I guess we each have our own way of doing things and as long as we get the desired result it's all good

Well, i think she is going to be ok because she wont stop pecking on my poor blue chick. She and her siblings are very tenacious and inquisitive! Almost to the point of aggressive! So I think shes going to make it. Both she and chick #1 climb up on top of the washcloth instead of getting underneath it.

I'm so glad to hear that! How did the hatch go overall? How many eggs did you set and how many hatched? We've been focussing on this little one, I forgot about the others.

Well i did start 16, 3 were bad by week 2, 1 infertile, so that left 12.

Of those 12 I have 6 babies. The other 6 were dead, 1 even had some sort of brown goo in it and was maybe 16 days at death.

My last hatchling is a gray, but for some reason the other chicks keep attacking her. They peck at her toes and her comb. She has cried herself hoarse.

She is about 3 hours old. I have to hold her in a towel on my chest to keep her calm. When she hatched, she had a little dob of blood in the egg.

Poor baby! I wonder why they are pecking her? Have you got a red lamp for their brooder? I hear the red colour helps calm them down and stops pecking. I always use it with my chicks.

I dont have a red light, maybe Ill get one tomorrow. Chick #1 has been nothing but the devil since he hatched. He even charges me when i reach in there!

I did notice a swollen area under Blue's neck. I dont know if that might be part of her problem. Sometimes she acts as though its hard to lift her head too. She was having real trouble when she hatched. 2 other chicks pipped and hatched after she pipped and got her beak out. I dont know what to do about it. Ive got her in a small box with cloth in the brooder so #1 cant touch her. What a bully! They all pick on her, but hes by far the worse, its almost like he sees her as food!
