help

Lol thank you all. I told her I didn't think it was a good idea for her to have them for eating. As far as I could tell the two that were on the nest were laying because I had about two eggs a day and the other two I don't think are yet. I saw the hen that I thought was broody on the nest an felt bad so I let her keep her eggs an took the one out of the two eggs a day. Which had the bulls eye when I cracked em for baking. So my original plan was to just get eggs for eating but then thought letting her hatch babies would be fun but I'm gonna wait until next spring to do all that. But I do have a million questions so any advice help etc would be really appreciated. Since the eggs have been removed I am now getting one egg a day when will the other start laying again? My mom's bf told her a few things that I'd like to her if they are correct ( bc he's the one that told her the eggs were safe to eat which I about died when I heard it bc it's been like 90-100) he said it you make a perimeter with a strong and spray paint it and the ground orange the light will reflect in the chickens eyes keeping them from leaving that area no one I have asked has ever heard that before has anyone else? Also how long can the egg sit in the nest even if the hen sits on it (I try to get the eggs everyday but I was gone for two days an came back to two eggs are they safe to keep? And also can chickens cut a whole bale of straw in half an spread it around there coop? I know some of these questions are crazy but I think my mom's bf doesn't know as much about chickens as he says lol so I need to confirm

Never heard of the orange paint trick so I dunno if that works.
If it's not super hot leaving eggs out til the next day should b ok. I have n no one in my family has been sick if unsure then don't eat em ymmv
Chickens will scratch straw around but they wont be able to spread a whole bale of straw on their own. They scratch n move on scratch n move on. They r looking for bugs n seeds. Best you take the flakes n shake em out.

Orange? No it will not keep them from straying. Normally broody hens will start laying within two weeks after they stop setting; some will be sooner and some later. I had a bale of straw in my coop for many months. Even after the twine was cut the hens only made a mess. The straw was not spread until I did it.

Thank you. I again need some help I have raised my chickens an rooster since pallets my toddler has held them an played with them since day one she is very Gentle with them an will hold them last month my niece was in the pen to get eggs an was looking an talking to me before she even went to the coop an the rooster walked up an pecked her hard an she cried then last week I went to pet one of the hens over the fence and the rooster pecked my hand an cut it in two spots then today my daughter an I went to go feed an water them an my two year old went to pick up the hen an the rooster straight attacked her he grabbed her diaper leaving a huge whole an bruised her with his wings an bc he was holding on with his mouth sliced her legs I smacked the cap out of him to get him off grabbed her an ran out. He used to be so sweet I could hold him on my lap for hours why is he doing this is there anything I can do to shoe him that's not ok to attack people without scaring him an Making him worse or should I just get rid of him? I am horrified right now

Some roosters stay sweet and gentle (great pets) and others turn mean; You have small children and that rooster is quite capable of doing serious harm; stew pot or new home, get rid of him. I know of know way to change this. In the roosters defense-he is defending his family. But for safeties sake he needs to go.

I agree with this. If u have a mean rooster attacking the kids they will be tetrified of chickens for the rest of their life. I had a RIR banty roo that would peck my boots everytime. He jumped my 5yr. old son 3 times in 1day. That was it. I got a 1 gal plastic jug n cut the bottom off n nailed it 2 a stake upside down. Roo went in revolver came out n my 5 yr old shot that rooster that had been attacking him.
He is 10 now n will collect eggs, feed lock them up n turn them out by himself not afraid of the birds.
If possible do the same thing with ur kids/neice. Make a public execution n tell them u will not have a mean rooster on ur property. It worked for us.

Thank you. I think I'm just going to rehome him. Also please help one of my hens got stuck behind the coop an my house an must have been there at least a day she even layer an egg. We saved her an she's drinking g like crazy but won't eat an the other chickens keep pecking her in the head should I separate her???

Separate but together. If you take her out, they will do the same thing when you put her back in. Can you keep her in the coop/run in a wire dog cage or similar with separate food and water for the day then let her back out at roosting tome? If not, be sure you have extra feeders and waterers in various places. Throwing scratch all over the run may distract the other hens and give them something better to do. You could use oatmeal, cereal, if you have no scratch. Best of luck.
ETS time not tome
