Ok - I'm not very good with 'name that bird' but here goes. 1st picture - useless to me, 2nd picture - the greyish in front may be an Orpington and the others could be Australorps.
You were a brave buyer!

The one in the first picture I believe is a barred rock, but she / he wouldn't be still at all haha. I was told that their mothers were very good layers and the rooster was present and was a very large JG. I wanted lots of eggs so I was glad to buy good layers however I'm now suspicious of how many are males.

With those grayish legs, the bird in your first pic is not a Barred Rock which have yellow legs. Based on the information you've given me, it's likely a Black Sex Link which are produced by crossing a solid colored rooster (Black Jersey Giant in this case) with a barred hen (usually a Barred Rock). Since Black Sex Link cockerels are barred, your bird (assuming it is a BSL) is a cockerel. With those grayish legs, it could also be a Cuckoo Marans (the pic is quite blurry). The birds in the second pic all appear to be pullets and I'm thinking are likely Black Jersey Giant X Australorp crosses.

Thank you that is very helpful. At least I now can be fairly sure I have plenty of layers.
