hey so I've been wanting some Silkie chicks mainly only 2 or 3 but the hatcheries I've look have minimum orders of 15-20 and I don't need 20 balls of fluff. I live in central Iowa and wanted to ask does anyone know any hatcheries that don't have high minimum requirements ?

No but the minimums vary. Try looking at My Pet Chicken.com and Meyer Hatchery. They usually go by minimum of three for one day olds or 1-2 for started pullets who are already 16-18 weeks old or so. MPC gets their baby chicks from Meyer. Shipping varies from state to state but they should be able to estimate shipping on the website for you. Hope this helps! Also minimums are higher in the winter and lower in warmer months April- November. May have to wait till then.

Sometimes you're best to go with amateurs as they will sell in smaller numbers. I would check the chooks & runs for cleanliness & ask about worming, vacs etc before buying. The lady I buy from keeps the cleanest runs & coops I have ever seen in my life & her birds are super healthy & well cared for. I only wanted 5 hens, 3 of 1 breed, 2 of another & she had absolutely no problem doing that for me. Plus she said any problems email her for advice. I have had no health issues with her birds & will buy from her again when I need to replace birds.

Not this time of year.....maybe later in spring, or order now for spring delivery.

Ordering has started for 2019. Can do if housing and feed ready upon arrival. They do sell fast in the spring. Word of warning don’t get feed till week of. If sits too long can mold or lose nutritional value.
