HELP

Where in the world are you located? Do you have mosquitoes? There are some lesions on the comb which make me wonder if this is fowl pox, possibly wet box since he reports lesions in the mouth too. I'm not sure if canker can also cause lesions on the comb. My guess would be that it is one or the other ailment for sure. If you have bad mosquitos then pox might be the more likely cause, if not go with canker treatment. A photo of the inside of hid mouth might be helpful.
Sorry I haven’t been able to grt a pix of his mouth yet. I am in east Texas. Mosquitos are not out this time of year, at least I have not seen any. Kind of doubting that it is the pox. His mouth has pus and semi hard corn looking growths on the tongue AND the inside of beak. My update on gustaf tells of my dissapointing vet visit. You might be interested in reading that. Oi. Thanks for your support.

That is interesting!
As soon as you get those pictures pop them up here and go from there. As you weren't given any medications at least there won't be any contradictions to look out for with anything advised here.

wow that vet... (be nice)... seems out of touch.

I had a Buff Orpington with a bad case last summer, she came over from a neighbor so was quarantined at the time.

Here's what I gave her:

2 pints of water
1 pint of Cranberry juice
1oz of apple cider vinegar
1/8 teaspoon of copper sulphate
mixed it all up, poured some in her food. rest in her water dispenser.

after 36 hours, most had resorbed.

Perhaps you can refer the vet to the poultrydvm link I gave you before, and here is another from a well respected resource:

If it is canker, it's well known and is most certainly not caused by stress alone.
Pox isn't caused by stress either. I would simply ask any questions and say you are trying to understand completely what is going on with your bird as you feel you can take better care of it if you understand exactly what is going on. For me, if I can't ask questions I find another vet, just like people Dr's some are better than others. Maybe there is just a terminology confusion going on.

Just wanted to add that if necessary and you feel that it is canker, both acidified copper sulfate and metronidazole are available without a prescription. Metronidazole can be gotten as a fish antibiotic.
If it is pox, then it should improve with time, you will need to make sure he's eating and drinking normally until it runs it's course if it's pox.
