Help! I have a chicken that is hatching some eggs my Muscovy duck laid. They are hatching. The first duck hatched without me knowing I found him outside the egg box the second egg pipped and started unzipping a little bit. I pulled the egg out from under the hen VERY gently every so often. I checked him at 8pm last night and he was moving but today at 10:30am he is not moving and his beak is sticking out of the egg a little and its open. is it dead? what should i do its not moving or peeping at all? is was super active yesterday

How cold did it get in your coup last night? Is he responding to touch at all? I would take him inside for a little while to monitor him.

It got down to 43 last night but the night the other one hatched it was 39. His is not responding to touch and there is something that looks like mucus in his mouth and I can see blood. I think he’s dead😶

What can I do? I very lightly misted him did that do something? what do I do with the next duckling? What was the cause? The other ones healthy

If you think he’s dead I would remove him for sure. I’m not a duck expert so I couldn’t say for sure, but if you don’t want to toss him out just yet, you can put him in a different container, like a box inside. I wouldn’t risk the health of the other hatchlings by leaving him in there tho. I couldn’t say what causes it.

Ok I think he is definitely gone so thanks for your help!

It should have a clearly visible air cell which will get a lot bigger when the duckling has internally pipped. You may also be able to see a shadow of the beak in the air cell. Other than the air cell, the egg should be mostly dark.
