All,
My chicks are now 6 days old and everyone looked to be doing great until I saw one that was stretching up really tall, then she had foam from her mouth, shook it off, and then was itching at her face and rubbing her mouth on the ground. Is this a problem? Is it common? What do I do? Now I am not sure what one it is anymore. They all look alike.

This may not be a problem other than a chick getting something disagreeable and cleaning its beak. For now, just observe their behavior and watch to see if all the chicks are eating and drinking. Good luck.

Yes, hopefully it is nothing to worry about; although I can certainly understand your concern. I would be fairly freaked out about it but nchls seems to have a good explanation in the post, above.

Thank you. She is really acting funny. Not startled by much. Just standing there and bobbing her head. Anyone know how to post a video from my phone? Oh, and she was the only one under the heat plate. It is very warm in the barn right now. She didn't scurry away when I checked under the plate. So I picked her up and she wiggled a bit.

I believe I figured it out. It looks to be an impacted crop. I noticed a lump. She is getting a couple drops of olive oil every 3-4 hours and a chick massage. Hopefully it will pass.
