HELP!

Hey y’all. I’m not really sure what happened but I have a hen that can’t see out of one of her eyes. It’s crusted over with something. I don’t know if she got pecked by another chicken or injured it while out free ranging. Picture attached, has anyone had experience with something like this?! What do I do?

Looks like fowl pox. Check inside her mouth and throat for yellowish ones. You will also want to check your other chickens for any pox.

Do any other chickens have lesions on their combs, wattles, or face ? It looks like a severe fowl pox outbreak. I would apply ophthalmic or other antibiotic ointment to moisten the scabs. If it is fowl pox, it's a virus which will have to run its course.

UPDATE: I’ve been doing warm compresses and her eye is open! Now just to figure out how to heal it completely

I have never heard of this, but we are also new to having chickens. I’ll have to look at the rest of the flock. Thank you!!

Is there a specific type of ointment to be used?

Triple antibiotic or Neosporin without pain meds are the only ones I know of.

Should I keep her separate from the flock until she’s better? Or would she be fine to be out with them? Sorry for all the questions, just want to help my girl. Lol!

At this point, the rest of your flock has definitely been exposed to it. There's no point in separate for quarantine purposes, but with her eye like that I would keep her indoors or in a garage to monitor it.
